Ski Touring Tuition & Guidance

Giffre Valley | Samoens & Morillon | Grand Massif

Ski touring or ‘skinning’ is a challenging sport in which you first ascend a mountain slope on skis before skiing down it.  Ski touring opens up a wide range of route choices and participants can explore terrain both within and beyond the marked ski area.

The basic principle of ski touring involves adding ‘skins’ to the underside of your skis that allow you to walk up a snowy slope without sliding backwards.  With skins attached, you simply walk uphill, much as you might hike up a mountain during the summer months. Upon reaching a summit, you simply remove the skins from your skis and enjoy a pristine downhill descent.

Snowboarders can also enjoy touring, which is called ‘splitboarding’.  A splitboard consists of two touring skis that can be connected together at the summit to transform into a snowboard.

Ski touring offers total freedom, allowing you to climb any mountain before enjoying a well-earned descent.

Skiing is for everyone!

The mountain environment is spectacularly stimulating and at ZigZag, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience it. We aim to make skiing an inclusive activity and as such, numerous instructors on our team have undertaken specific training qualifying them to teach skiers with special needs.

Our compassionate handiski instructors are proud to have the skills and qualifications to teach skiers with reduced audio, visual, physical, mental and learning capabilities. With plenty of experience teaching adaptive skiing both in France and internationally, you’ll be in strong, gentle hands, safe in the knowledge you can learn in full security.

Technical Top Up Clinics

Clinics for Experienced Adult Skiers

For advanced skiers interested in topping-up existing skills quickly and cheaply.

These groups will run with an advanced ski coach working on carving, steeps, bumps and off piste in groups of 3 to 8 adults.

Technical Top Up clinics are designed for experienced skiers who would like some technical correction to ‘knock the rust off’ their ski style.  These clinics are very social and provide a great way for meeting others who share your level of ability.

If the conditions are right and the group is in agreement, your instructor will take advanced skiers off piste to work on your powder skiing skills, and to guide you into areas you may not otherwise know about.

A highly cost-effective way to indulge in some upper level tuition for those who perhaps haven’t had lessons for years.
